Sticky DCCD

Hi all,

My car is a 2006 Subaru WRX STI

So I've been told that my DCCD is a bit more sticky than usual. When in auto mode and driving in parking lots or parking at home the it feels like I'm driving with a locked rear diff. Theres i gripping and jumping sound when turning at slow speeds. It seems to be more so when turning in one direction than the other. When on the open its not a problem in auto.

My rear diff has also been set to grip a bit more making the car slightly more tail happy.

When i spoke to the car's builder he noted that the problem could be with the rear diff instead of the centre diff.

1. What is normal and should i be concerned?
2. On what milage do you guys service your drivetrain?
3. Are any of you familiar with servicing the DCCD and is it recommended?

i am personally not familiar with the inter workings of Driver Controlled Center Differential "DCCD". However, I do know the 6spd transmissions in our STI's requires special tools to measure how everything is put together as it can not be measured when the transmission casing is on like the 5spd transmissions are. If it were me I would take it to a specialist near you that deals with these transmissions if you suspect a mechanical failure with your 6spd transmission. Additionally, the rear diff is only a LSD differential that is all mechanical, with exception of the temp sensor in rear.

To start i would try changing the fluids in both the transmission and read diff, and refill. When you drain the fluids check for any metal flakes. As this might be a sign of failure. As for which fluids to use on an 06 lets ping IGOTASTi, and HolyCrapItsFast. They would know which fluids are probably best.

1) When at parking lot speeds, with the wheels at/near full lock, you do get some less-than-bentley-smooth noises and jolts that come through the system. I'm under the impresson that it's normal. Think about it, the DCCD is getting virtually no wheel-speed information so who know's what its "thinking." I wouldn't be concerned unless there's a real problem (grinding, etc...). But if you're worried, take it to a shop and just have them listen as you recreate the sound.

2) I think I changed my diff/trans fluid at 30k? It might've been 40, it was a while ago!

3) Define "servicing"

Getting all this done now, hopefully it will be better. Ive had a few people say its normal but I've been in Subarus that are not as bad as mine. Service meaning km getting the oil changed on gearbox and rear diff

Getting motul gear 300 75w90 replaced
