    Oh, another thing... it probably saved me a bunch of money by removing the trans myself and delivering it to the shop. I'm sure that removing/reinstalling would have cost a lot more in labor.

    Yeah, I'm afraid it's a synchro. I'd recommend getting it fixed soon so it doesn't spread damage to other gears. However, it's going to be best to have them all replaced as well as the forks. Shop around a little bit and you might be able to get it done for $1k or less. I got really lucky...

    7840 - For sure. I've still got a ways to go with the Buick, but just trying to think ahead. 8.7" of ground clearance and the XT engine option seems to make the Outback the obvious choice. Heavier vehicles do get better traction, and the longer wheel base makes for pretty dependable handling...
