home made vs bought catch can

there two types of catch cans out there. the ones that are just a box with an in and out port that do virtually nothing. then there is the kind like this http://www.saikoumichi.com/OCC_explanation.htm that actually have baffles and filter media.

so to me it seems like for cheap i could make not just a catch can but a better catch can. one that would have some mechanism to keep the oil from splashing up the sides during hard cornering and better oil seperation thru the use of baffles and a filtering media as well. the baffles would probably be engineered to act as the mechanism to keep oil away from the outlet as well.

it seems to me the most difficult/frustrating part for the average person would be a lack of abillity to weld. so what solution to this could we come up with? use epoxy? :unsure:stuffs strong but you would need to hold the peice in place until it dries.

thoughts/opinions.

Deek on here had a custom setup designed for his big build.

Peronsally, I wouldnt use an epoxied oil container in my engine bay. Just too big a risk. I'd take it to get welded at a shop. But I think many of the AOS and CC setups that are commercially available do a pretty good job and have actually been tested in a variety of conditions. Its true, an AOS like the GS version has seen some issues with track and AutoX use, but I havent heard anything bad about most of the others.

By the time you go through a couple of iterations of your design, paying someone to weld, etc... you'd probably be in a better place financially to have bought a proven setup. But you'll probably learn more and have more fun by coming up with something yourself.
