Kia Ora all

Been following on Facebook for ages and got the right answer about signing up here vs. slumming it with the N/A crew if you are just a WRX pilot ;). My bugeye has a few STi bits installed either way, love the Subaru lego!

Previous to the WRX my weapon of choice was a 5spd twin turbo BG5 Legacy (you guys never got them in the US, this is what happens when you put the steering wheel on the wrong side...)

Look forward to talking with everyone soon!

I'll start with the the old Leggy since you guys never got the TT and they are a little bit special i.e you love them or you hate them based on whether you like/can figure out how to drive the sequential parallel turbo set up or not.

It's basicly two smallish turbos, one is all spooled up at about 3/3.5k RPM so you have full boost at low rev's leaving the lights etc then around 4.5/5k RPM you have parallel twin turbos that pull hard till you hit the rev limiter (many Evo or V8 driver has suffered the shame of a mid size station wagon suddenly vanishing over the horizon in front of them as they run out of boost/torque in the top end lol).

The only down side was if you changed gear in that 4/4.5k RPM zone while the system was busy sharing the boost to get the second turbo spooled up you were suddenly driving an N/A 2 litre while the system rearranged itself and got the first turbo spooled up again (we call that VOD over here, valley of death lol). Once you learned how to drive them they were great, i.e short shift a 4k RPM for G rated situations or commit to 7.5k RPM/lots o horses and hang on!

It is a fairly complicated setup, any serious mods were arcane and expensive so I kept mine to opening up the intake/exhaust (no cats required ;) ), bigger wheels, STi short shifter, upgraded suspension and a few interior garnishes. I still miss the Momo Fighter steering wheel

So when it was time to retire the BG I went looking for a 5spd BP GT (imo the best looking Leggy to date) but they are very sought after in NZ and hold their value ($15K + with 100Km on the clock was market rate) and that was a little too much alas. So after a bit o searching I ended up with a very tidy unmolested JDM GGA WRX (yes I like station wagons).

It looks very plain from the outside and attracts a lot less attention than the GT which was hella loud with no cats and a big fart can ;) It's not as wide/long/heavy as the GT so its taken a wee while to get used to it, but I have a plan to get her where I want her ;). Upgrades so far

Bolted straight in, alot bigger than the std WRX TMIC, much better plumbing as well but the gearbox dip stick is a bitch to get at now lol

Not as loud as a fart can but it has a nice bark when you bury the boot

Some garnish to match the OEM Momo wheel

Next on the list is getting these suckers on (one of the single pot calipers is sticking hence doing the rear before the front)

Have a set of 17's ready when the current 16" rubber is EOL and I've just tracked down some tasty LED headlights to replace the ugly OEM bugeyes. Then its some STi four pots for the front, new supension all around, then its into more power ;)

The only time i have ever seen that switch was from a guy in the UK who had a spec d. The spec d tail lights had the rear fog light. Just like audi has and a lot of other euro cars.
