Hello everyone. My name is Mahmood. I do not own an STi yet, but I'll be turning in my Mercedes lease in May 2015 and buying my new Subaru. I've been drooling over this car since the first STi was available in the U.S. but money issues prevented me from getting it (the MBZ was not my choice, BTW, otherwise I would have gotten the STi). I'm in a position now where I can finally realize my dream. I'll have questions about mods once I buy it but for now I want to know just one thing: what modifications will void the warranty, and what mods can I make and not have to worry about it? I'm presuming that any mods to the motor would void the warranty but I want to make sure. Thanks!

Welcome! Nothing per say will void said warranty however say if its root cause is due to a part for said reason of failure then warranty claim could be denied.
Dealer cant void or deny your claim, SoA under review could deny you. Say if engine blew because you had an turboback and a tune that was flashed onto the ecu would be reasons enough.

I really enjoy the new 15 STi, for now I'm enjoying the car for what it is. Maybe a catback soon hopefully. I've done some cosmetics, tint, clear 3M film protection, rally armors. I also just put in a order for a tactrix so i can monitor the car for now, if it's actually bad and knocking all over the place I may just end up getting it retuned to make it smooth as possible. We shall see! I'm still seeing about 10-12 week delay if you were to put in a order for one. So maybe if you time it right you can have your dream STi and package arrive in May.

I appreciate the reply and the welcome, thank you. Yeah, I guess the warranty thing is an at-your-own-risk kind of thing.

also, you mentioned rally armor and tactrix. What are those if you don't mind my asking? You also mentioned knocking. What would cause a motor to knock (poor tuning job?). I ask because it's a concern for when I'm ready to tune mine. Thanks!

Rally Armor are just mud flaps, adds a nice touch to the STi's look.

Here's mine, I only have the rear ones installed at the moment. Still need time to install the front ones.

Tactrix allows you to log and tune your car, with the lifetime membership here you can get hooked up with a tune from our expert tuners. The stock tune isnt the best, plenty of room of improvement. HolyCrapItsFast and TK-421 could speak more on this topic than I could. I'm definitely going to learn alot once my tactrix comes in the mail this coming monday.

Believe it or not but mud flaps are one thing I know I'm going to install on my STi. Those are some great pics you posted! Thanks for the advice on the Tactrix. That may be down the line for me, we'll see. Also, you're saying if I become a platinum member I can have my STi professionally tuned?

Hey, thanks for the welcome. Yeah, suspension is definitely on the table. I MAY start with that, I'm just not sure yet. Although I'm thinking about a turboback as the first mod.

Before you go crazy on mods. How mechanically inclined are you? How knowledgeable are you with cars?

Thank you for the welcome, Alin! It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Mahmood. That was an excellent read and very informative link you provided. I can't thank you enough!! As far as posting pics, this is the first thread I've ever joined. I've looked around a bit but can't find the area to post pics of my Benz. Also, the Benz is a lease, and as such has remained stock. Thanks again for the link!

I've changed oil, spark plugs, batteries, etc. on previous cars I've owned, but I'm not comfortable doing the more complicated work. I understand YouTube has lots of good DIY videos though.

Thats good enough. I doubt youll want to do much more than the usual things since youre gonna have a warranty. Have you decided on what color sti and options youll be getting?

Enjoy the car stock first month or so and get familiar with it before you start modding anyhing other than visuals.

Im sure waiting for may to come around is going to feel like an eternity.

Yeah, I figure I'll let them cover all the warranty work while I can. As far as color and options, I'm looking at white or the dark gray, maybe the WR Blue. I really haven't decided yet. I definitely want the Navigation and Harmon/Kardon package. I may spring for the push-button start and the 18" BBS wheels. And yes, waiting does suck. As they say, the last mile is always the hardest!

Yes, E-Tuning is part of the lifetime membership and we have very knowledgeable tuners here :) There are some requirements though for a proper tune.

I only had my STi for 2 months and the stock suspension imo is pretty great! Get a feel of the ride first before dishing out on a new setup, oh and double check your tires cause they are overfilled and sometimes the service department forgets to drain them.

I have the Nav+Push start package, its definitely worth it! I'm very satisfied with the stereo system to the point where a sub is not necessary. Harman Kardon speakers are great, however I cannot speak for the actual nav itself. I feel it should be better and faster. It slightly lags when your trying to type in an address but as long you can be patient with it, its not so bad. Save all your destinations lol so you dont need to type anything in haha.

Hey CSF (what's your name?), I read through the links you attached and I quickly realized I'm out of my element when it comes to tuning and logging. I got the gist of it, but you don't want to mess with that kind of thing when all you have is a 'gist', you know what I mean? I know I'll have to have a pro take care of that stuff for me until I'm comfortable with it. I don't even know what equipment would be involved.

As for the equipment packages I'm leaning towards the full pkg., including BBS wheels. One question: Every dealer I've checked has up to a $7K mark-up on the car. That's a no-go for me initially because I'd rather avoid paying through the nose for the car. Were you able to haggle with the dealer when you bought yours?

Main part was to learn to log and monitor, I don't know much either! I just want to make sure I'm not knocking around town.
I have about 10 Subaru Dealers within a 1 hour radius. I just sent an email out to all of them for a quote out the door with said options you want. Make sure they come close to the price you may find here www.truecar.com
Closer you are to invoice price the better, I was only $500 over invoice. I had lower offers but they wouldn't price match the dealers that were actually 1 hour away, so I went with the lowest tax county that was local(20mins) instead of the ones farther.

THAT is incredible news!! I used to sell cars for a living so I know all about the game, but I had heard that dealers absolutely DO NOT budge when it comes to the STi. I CANNOT believe that you paid $500 over invoice! That is so awesome. Now I can use that to go in with more leverage. Sweeeeeet! By the way, my name is Mahmood.
