How to bypass Emission test

So my sti was purchase and built in FL which has no emissions law, but all that changed when my duty station is moved to JBLM, WA. Took the car to the emission center today and failed with flying colors. I have no cat of any kind, high fuel mixture, and apparently my 4th piston is misfiring. I am currently using 30day visitors pass to get on and off post, but I need to get a post decal and that is only possible with a pass in emission test. Which will cost me a pretty penny. Anyone knows how to bypass this tax collection scam? Thank You

Honestly the only way would be to toss on a couple of cats and if you are still having problems then to add some E85 as well.

Misfire cylinder #4? May be plug or coil pack. That would be a cheap fix. Running rich may be due to the unburned fuel from #4. I dare not say what else could be wrong with #4.
If you don't wanna plunk down for cats then just weld in a hollowed out cat housing. Smoke and mirrors. That may do the trick?

Will not work. Most states who do emission testing use sniffers which measure the amount of certain chemicals in the exhaust gas. The only way for him to pas is to either get some one to hand jam the pass form (not actually do the test and just bribe the guy) or to put one too two cats in the down pipe and then toss in some E85 as well. I have heard stories of people passing emissions in some states with out the use of cats just by running E85 instead of gas. I am not sure how true this is but it might be worth looking into. I would not suggest just going out and toss some E85 in and running with it as E85 has less energy per volume than Gasoline does so the car will run poorly with out a tune.

I hate too say it but the only way I see you passing is too buy a catted down pipe for the car, heck even the stock DP will work if you refrain from going into boost and have cels turned off.

That #4 cylinder miss fire is something you need to look into as cylinders #2 and #4 have a tendency to die on STI's.

How about flashing a new map for emissions only? Something like a valet-mode map? They can't fail your car for it not revving above 2500 RPM (or whatever it is)...its still safe, just slow.

What about this guys...its completely theoretical

this is strictly to pass emissions...

keep your stock DP and get what ever DP you want...put all mods on with the stock DP still installed and get a tune and save it do your AP...then install the aftermarket DP...tune and save to the AP and enjoy...when it comes to emissions time reinstall the stock DP flash the map of the stock dp with mods take the test and pass then put the aftermarket dp back on and reflash...is this a possibility?

O yeah he does have 35r don't he. Best bet then could be get two high flow cats welded into his current DP, then get it tuned for that. That is honestly the only way I see him passing the sniffer test.

ok. I still have the stock turbo as you know so would my previous post legitimately work for me?

I wouldn't see why not? So long as you haven't deviated from stock too much? If you have the AP you could reflash your factory tune or Cobb stage one after you reinstall the DP. If it were me and I was gonna live in an area with emissions testing for any length of time, I would just get a cat installed and not have to mess with it when testing comes around.
Seems an awful lot of trouble for just a cat. Glad I don't live in those areas.

No...... Sorry but if you have a 35r on the car right now, that means a couple of things. First you have a rotated up-pipe, a rotated intake, fmic kit meant for your car and bigger injectors. Just slapping on the stock turbo would not work, as you would need to put back on the stock up-pipe, stock inlet and intake, and then the stock turbo and the stock down pipe. As well as get a custom tune for the larger injectors as other wise the car wont even start.

The best bet money wise, time wise and just common sense wise is to either pick up a catted down pipe from off line meant for a rotated set up, or to have a shop near you weld on a few cats in your current dp and then get re tuned for the cats. The problem is there is a decent sized difference between catted and un-catted, and your tune will need to be adjusted, best bet would have the person who did the current tune on the car email tune it for you so as to save some money and time.

God damn it..... I thought you had a 35r kit on.... If you still have on the stock turbo then just toss on the stock dp, flash a stage 1 map on the car and go back in. IF you have new injectors then you will need to do a little bit more but other wise you will be fine. Just stay out of boost and granny it too the place where they test, then go back home and put it back. This is what I did last year.

Thanks guys for the suggestions and help. I actually just went back and went to the civilian counter instead of the military and got my post decal without a hitch. Apparently since my car is register in FL, license is from FL, and home of address is in FL I did not have to abide by WA state emissions laws. Taking the car to Pacific Auto Imports in Tacoma, WA today to see what its up with the 4th piston misfiring. The car runs smooth and idle fine, but I guess ill find out soon enough.

Yep being active duty you don't have to worry about it, and if there are no emissions laws in FL then you can hopefully just re register the car online and they will mail you your new tabs. Good luck with the cylinder misfire. If you are using gas on post I would recommend an octane booster as the shoppette gas really sucks. Also there is 94 off of the 5 in parkland, and E85 in Olympia.
