Ok guys a quick up date...

Basically insurance is NOT paying due to the reason of the fire being an "engine malfunction" or "faulty repair". NRMA Insurance do not cover this. They have not been helpful at all during the claim process and have taken months to get anywhere. They were rude and had only there interest in mind. Really annoying!

So I now have a lawyer to help sort this out. A report from NRMA states that the bleeder valve for the coolant came loose and released coolant over the engine bay causing a fire. (What a joke) this would leave the mechanic who built and installed the motor at fault. I am currently awaiting another report to confirm this. If so I believe the mechanics insurer will be liable for compensation.

It's been a long time with out the car and frustrating to say the least.

Though there light at the end of the tunnel.

Regardless of the out come I will be rebuilding the Sti again from my pocket or theirs. And will be going for big KW output. 450kw roughly. Since I have to replace all the parts in the bay they will all be high performance where possible.

Stay tuned.

Well the mechanic isn't happy at all with the report as you could imagine. I mean since when does coolant (basically water) cause fires? The report is extremely detailed though and explains a lot but still I would have thought it would have been some other way.

It will be really interesting to see how the second report turns out.

Glad no one was hurt and that you are going to rebuild. If you need any parts or any help with your build please let us know. We will be more than happy to help you get it back on the road again.

Coolant is actually flammable but it takes a surface temperature over 700 F to ignite it. For an open flame to ignite it, it mush be in mist form.

The situation seems slightly plausible to me. It could have dripped onto the headers and it looks like the fire started low and in the front.

Yes you're right. Though the coolant used held zero flammable substance. The coolant used prior to this coolant did though. My insurer had great detail in coolant and its flammability.

Either way I am sorry this happened and I think it is BS anyway. What ever extenuating circumstances are, it was out of your control. Insurance is supposed to cover the unexpected loss and this falls in that category. I feel they are greedy corporate bastards and you basically handed them hundreds to thousands of dollars over the years and by denying your claim they are committing fraud... IMO

Def agree ^^^ I would fight back with insurance, tell them you will take them to court and see if that changes. I have had insurance try and deny me of a claim when my 2011 STI got hit while parked at my apartment and other driver drove off. They said well your car was parked on the side of the road (which is where parking was for that building) and that it may not be covered. I told them Ill just ask my lawyer and he can deal with it. After that they said we will cover it this time. haha. They don't want to pay so will say anything to not have to but if you fight back with them most likely you will win. I don't see how they cannot cover this like HolyCrapItsFast said. This was out of your control and you shouldn't be left with it.

You guys are right! It's a bit unfair. But il definitely be fighting back somehow. In the mean time rebuilding as it's been too long just sitting there basically everything brand new
