i do have plans for mods, however its just not in the budget atm. i really want to do everything suspension related as thats what dissapoints me about the car. after that ill probaby do cosmetics ( including mud flaps ) and some engine bay dress up.

Very good start. Handling was definitely one of the biggest gripes I have had with my 08.

Just bought new tires and brake pads; I'm also thinking i need to replace the steering pump :/ so that has priority.

Front strut bars are one of the last things I'd do, unless you want engine bay bling.

the only problem i have with a rear x brace is when i travel i usually take my dog and put the back seats down (so he can move about and for whatever i'm lugging around). i dont want to have to disassemble anything for a road trip.

would i be better off getting braces for the chassis instead of the front strut?

Yeah. You can get an underbody h brace or the whole damn chassis braces. I forget the exact name of the large ones. (Was it a complete aftermarket stiffening subframe?)
