It's not done quite yet. The top layers of bricks aren't mortared in placed yet, but I wanted to stack them up for the sake of placing even weight on the pit, so that if it settles, (which I'm sure it still will) it does so evenly and stays as level as possible. Today I'll get back out there and finish it all up.
In the front, down at ground level, there is a small gap for water drainage and in the back, up higher there is a another gap for air flow.
There will be more white, crushed quartz poured around the outside as well as the inside of the pit (about 2-3" deep). I'm still not sure if I'm going to put a cast iron cradle in the middle to stack the wood on and keep it up off the bottom so it burns evenly.
