I drove myself and my gf over to her grandpa's house for their big easter meal with the whole family. On the way, this joker in a white (2008-ish) V6 Mustang with a very loud exhaust was trying to screw with me on the ramps and freeway. I eventually came to a point where there was no one nearby on the road and blew him away. I coasted back down to 5 over the limit and went back to cruising. He eventually comes flying past and drives like an asshat weaving in and out of traffic up ahead.

It's not done quite yet. The top layers of bricks aren't mortared in placed yet, but I wanted to stack them up for the sake of placing even weight on the pit, so that if it settles, (which I'm sure it still will) it does so evenly and stays as level as possible. Today I'll get back out there and finish it all up.

In the front, down at ground level, there is a small gap for water drainage and in the back, up higher there is a another gap for air flow.

There will be more white, crushed quartz poured around the outside as well as the inside of the pit (about 2-3" deep). I'm still not sure if I'm going to put a cast iron cradle in the middle to stack the wood on and keep it up off the bottom so it burns evenly.

Either way, Alin wanted to see my progress, so here you go dude.

Done!

I need to add more crushed white quartz to the inside and out, but essentially, it's done.

The quartz is from an area in the front lawn. It was originally used as landscaping but as we expand the vegetable garden, the sod taken up from there will be cut and laid out front to replace the stones. These stones look much better when washed and it will take a day or two of hosing before they are pearly white but I'm confident it will all look good.

Wow nice!

All in all, about how much did the entire set up cost you?

I'll have to check and get back to you. The project included fractions of the materials I bought, because I have other projects that I plan to use the same materials on. For example, I bought a pallet of almost 700 bricks to use for the fire pit and a small patio. I used approximately 275 bricks building the pit and one 60 lb. bag of mortar, plus a piece of 3/8" cement board and two 40 lb. bags of paver leveling sand as a base. The materials were fairly cheap.

I shit you not, I have a farmers tan like it's August.
