It Blowed Up

I have already bled every fiber of my being with this car.:sosad: I am completely punch drunk.:)) I was considering new cams but I would not be switching out the ECU. I'm pretty happy with the OEM and Cobb combination.

Your happy now that the engine isn't noise, well wasn't... I was extremely happy with my reflash and my adjustments, but when I went with drop in pistons, BC cams and springs...It sounds like a mini diesel. The ecu noise threshold wasn't working with my noise lv and that is why I had to change.

I will tell you this, the aem tuned right can hold a 750rpm idle with 2,000cc injectors and can also do a lot of things that the stock ecu would falls short. Either way you wont see a huge gain in cams, so far I haven't but sadly i'm still on the stock snail. I can rev it to 8,200rpm and it feels dam sexy, but theres no power in my case lol.

Yeah I saw that aem running 2000cc injectors holding a 750rpm idle. That is very impressive.

Holycrap hopefully everything works out for the best with your build.

Btw I am going to call you holycrap from now on.

HolyCrap is cool!

So far so good with the build. I have it all installed and am in break-in now. I will have a journal up soon with all the engine porn. I'm trying to drive it as much around town as I can because I have to go to Virginia in two days and I don't want to stay steady with the throttle to long unless I have at least 500 mile on the engine.

Surprisingly mine is relatively quiet. I only ever hear anything during the first 15-30 seconds of startup. With the last engine, I had a lot of internal engine noise but was able to adjust the thresholds to compensate. I knew what was noise and what wasn't and was able to tune out most of the effects.

IMO it only makes sense to go with a stand alone ECU if and when my setup exceeds the resolution of the stock ECU. Granted I may be approaching those thresholds in the near future when I upgrade the turbo and injectors yet again but for now I am well within those limits. I am familiar with AEM products and understand their potential. I've been tuning Sylvia's for a while with AEM product in them. If I do ever go with a stand alone it will be AEM. It just scares me to spend $1500+ on that right now.

HOLYCRAP you always make me smile with your engine porn! :goodjob:

You don't think the new owner will give it what it deserves Jared?

Fuck no. He was a jobless redneck. But then again I did let it sit abandoned for over 2 years... outside... uncovered. By the time I started working on it earlier this year it was a lost cause... It was practically a gutted chasis with an engine. The transmission was having issues as well.

I learned my lesson. Next time I'm 16 I won't buy a car, work my ass off while in highschool to mod it and swap an engine, gut the car to get a 2200lb curbweight so I can win street races, get arrested for street racing, get kicked out of my house for getting into trouble in my senior year of highschool, and abandon a gutted project car at my parents house for years..... If I could go back I'd smoke more weed and stay out of trouble with racing and becoming addicted to modifying cars.

Oh yes... I've been a part of a team out here called DriftReady for some time and help out with the owners cars from time to time. My experience is limited only to tuning the engine though. I get lost when they start rattling off suspension mods and such. The STi still rains king IMO

Wohhhh.... Wait a second.... George... You have experience with SR20DET's?

I miss my SR20. it never got the GT2871rs, full race manifold, cams, greddy intake manifold, and meth injection it deserved. :(

LOL, I remember when I first joined IWSTI, I was looking through your pictures and noticed they were all labels "driftready.". I thought to myself "this guy must be a tool, drifting, really?" But now I know better. Hopefully I didn't just ruin my chances of you putting together my fuel lines:)

LOL... I know how it must sound to other people but I'm one who just does his own shit. You would really be amazed at how well these things drift. They are every bit as good a rear wheel car but still those in my group never give it a second thought. That is until they see it in action. My friend Darion is the one who usually takes it out and it sends chills down my spine to see it perform that way. It looks like a ballerina. I really have to take some video next time.

And of course I would be happy to run your fuel lines no matter what. I have no ego to bruise.

Yeah definitely. I have gotten the rear end loose a few times and just the feel of it getting loose then straightening up is a real rush. Honestly I have nothing against drifting, I just think the competitions are a little off. Maybe I need to try watching it again.

There is nothing more amazing/sketchy then a well executed downhill speed drift. I think America has kinda killed drifting, its more of a big power sport now like everything else. I think the Scion racing team had a NASCAR V8 in their car last year.. color me unimpressed.

Holy! If you still have your engine out, could you measure the cam sensors width at the screw base? I need this to see how much material have I taken out of the sensors. Can you do this with a metric caliper? Pretty please?! lol.

Sure no problem man. The car is running but I don't have avcs. I just want to know how much material do I have left to play with in the cam sensors.
