Chuckle, indeed! I'm sure it's the clutch - looking at the logs, I get slight 'ramps' of about 50rpms, and then a small drop. In a pattern, between 4000 and 5000 rpms, until load start dropping. Yeeha! I'm about to kill the clutch!

Well, to be honest I'm not sure where to start looking. Thing is, I need to think future too - this will get to upper 400's whp quite quickly, so might as well factor that in now.

Yay, 3 bar Omni MAP sensor has arrived! Thanks George, you rock.

Right - so where do I get the scaling for this? Googlefu I guess.

EDIT (ONLY FOR ROMRAIDER! DO NOT PLUG THIS INTO COBB ATR)

Ok, equation is V = 5 x (0.00318xP - 0.00353)
Where P is in Kpa

Simplified, that resolves to P (kpa) = 62.893V +1.11
so divided by 100:

Multiplier: 0.62893
Offset: 0.011

Just putting this out there in case anybody googles for the info, was rather convoluted to find it.

The figures are off Omni's own site. I can get the 4bar figures for you right now.

In COBB I gather it's slightly different (scalar and offset) - what I posted was for the 3bar, using Romraider.

For the 4bar

Cobb AccessPORT MAP Sensor Cal
(Located under Sensor Calibrations)
Scalar 625.07
Offset 8.69

Voila!

Dayum... I hit 4.73V on the MAF on a WOT run - only 4 cells from the top. Crikey.

Eugh... I think I'm going to vomit a little. I nearly just bricked the ecu scaling in the Omni 3bar MAP sensor. I'm sure it's a great sensor, but plug and play my ass. Kept on throwing a P00107 (low MAP sensor input) CEL, so I had to reduce the voltage threshold right down to 0.35v, and move the count threshold up to 10 (from 8).

The vomit part is that half way through (with a CEL) Ecuflash refused to connect giving a communication error - I had a cold shiver. Unwittingly the tactrix extension cable had come loose - which I didn't notice, since I'm plugging in the tactrix at the top end. Thank god I wasn't flashing a ROM when it came loose. Gotta zip tie that sucker.

Anyways, the sensor seems to be working just fine now - I guess I'll really see driving arond tomorrow, and getting some logs.

I'm off to have a fat whiskey.

Close Call!

I believe for ATR you use open source logic now.

For my 3bar calibration I ended up with 9.943PSIa/v multiplier and -8.005PSIa offset.

FWIW Cobb describes it as "Current boost (Absolute Pressure) = (MAP sensor voltage * Multiplier) + Offset"

Close Call!

You're telling me - I rebooted, plugged the USB in, etc. etc. and just kept on getting the error. Horrible, sinking feeling.

Well, the scaling seems to be working a-ok - driving to work this morning, manifold rel pressure seems to be reading correctly, I guess the true test will be when I get to crank up the boost (stock maxed out at 22psi).

Ah... FML. My radiator cracked (or I hit a serious stone or something similar, given the state of the roads at the moment) and the car ran damn hot for at least 2 drives (at least I wasn't hitting it hard, driving very sedately).

I could hear on the last drive that boost wasn't sounding right (very short drive), so I popped the hood as soon as I got home, and saw water leaking furiously out of the radiator, and the coolant levels low. Checked the logs out - since I basically log all the time - :( hit a maxium of 117c.

Shit, shit, shit... car's being picked up today - if I'm lucky I didn't do any damage, but with that kind of temperature, and the way boost was sounding, I think the head gasket's toast. Other than that, car's sounding fine - idling still rock steady, starts no problem and engine sounds healthy, so I don't think anything else would have gone (also, logs show no knock, even at the highest temperature, which if pistons or anything else went, I would have expected).

Waiting to hear the verdict once the car gets picked up. Damn.

Yeah, me too... I'm hoping the fact that there was still coolant in there, that I wasn't driving hard, ARP studs, and that I have an oil cooler mitigates against that risk.

Now I see why people invest in an after market temp gauge.

Definitely wasn't - in fact, I couldnt see any leaks from the heads, oil or coolant. As the mechanic said, keep your fingers crossed, luck of the draw - he's seen head gaskets stay intact at 120c.

Sigh...

Shit, still can't get the car in, there's an industrial strike on at the moment, just my luck, the marches are happening in the area where the shop is.

I'm increasingly thinking it's head gasket - another piece of the clue for me is I gather that a blown HG would cause a lean low end, and a rich top end. A couple of days before the overheating, I suddenly got the top end going really rich - whilst I was struggling with the low end thinking it was a vacuum leak (but not finding it). Looks like she'll have to come out, but can only confirm once she's in.

Indeed - thankfully he actually has quite a few in stock, there's always quite a number of engines being built in there.

I just hope I can get this done relatively quickly, I guess that also depends on the state of the heads. Oh well, pay to play.

Seems we are both in deep shit.. My motor popped three days ago... I was racing (I can't believe I'm about to say this) a Honda and it wasn't even a nice one... That's right... I was racing a Honda and My motor popped. I've raced and held my own with Z06's, Audi RS4's, Mustang Cobras and Shelbys, BMW M5's and so on. But to have the thing blow up on a Honda is just ironic

For me it was the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator had come off at 6000rpm and 21psi of boost. There was a massive lean condition and by by ring landing... This was with forged Wiesco pistons also.

Well back to work... I have to have this thing finished before my trip to Vagina... Piece!!!

You're going to try and rebuild an engine in less than a week? I wish you the best of luck man... If you manage to do it then you one badass mofo.
