Apparently the new Porsche GT3 3.8L engine is experiencing some problems. Porsche has narrowed it down to the rod bolts. The blocks are cracking, spilling oil and then many have reported fires destroying the cars. Porsche has announced to owners to not drive the cars. Porsche will be replacing all of the engines at no charge. OUCH! expensive screw up.
However, they are no stranger to motor failures. In the past, the 996 model 911 Carrera, non turbo and not the GT3 or GT2, the case halves were splitting resulting in catastrophic engine failure.
So just when you get pissed about your Subaru piston failure, imagine plunking down 100-200k on a car only having it throw it's oil everywhere and burning to the ground.:tdown:
OR imagine someone like me or you, buy a used one cause that's what you can afford and then having the motor fail. Replacing that engine would be like buying a new car. I had remembered looking at replacement engines for my Cayenne and seeing a price tag of 32,000, or somewhere in there, for new crate engine. :tard:
So I guess the moral of the story is that even the high end performance cars, like the venerable Porsche, aren't without their black eyes.
